from SLP 7 September 2010: When the South London Line is axed in 2012, the overcrowding at Clapham North on the Northern line will be severe. The funding for the Victoria - Bellingham and Bromley new service that was promised in mitigation was taken by TfL for the East London Line Extension to Clapham Junction. This means that Clapham High St and Wandsworth Rd stations will lose all their services direct into central London. Read article...

 NEW 'MILLWALL' STATION COULD STILL BE ON CARDS

A new train station that would serve Millwall Football Club and the surrounding area could now be built, just months after being apparently dropped from plans.

Network Rail is launching the first ever Nationwide stations research project asking passengers what is important to them at their local station, where they would like to see investment and what are their priorities. They say they want to know what passengers want from stations and what's important to them. See further information in their Press Release below. This seems an opportunity not be missed to tell them what we think of our own stations - Peckham Rye, Queens Road Peckham, South Bermondsey, East Dulwich, Nunhead, Denmark Hill. Let's get lots of local users taking part so they really get the message about what needs to be improved. Rail chief: I'll compensate for lost service... but I won't bring it back

Transport Committee's letter to Managing Director of London Rail RTF - September 2009

This letter from Committee Chair Caroline Pidgeon to TfL raises concerns that current plans to increase capacity at London Bridge station do not include extending all the platforms for twelve carriages. It highlights the Committee’s recent report, The Big Squeeze: Rail overcrowding in London, which urged the Department for Transport to fully extend all platforms at London Bridge as part of the Thameslink project.

TfL have now decided that the new Surrey Canal Road station, on the new East London Line Extension pase 2, is not cost effective and are shelving the plans. They suggest it can be built at a later date. But this would cost much more, and if the station is not built now with the new line it may never materialise. Read more

CONTINUING CUTS
Our latest flyers spell out the significance of the effect, on each of our local stations, of the continuing cuts. For example, from Peckham Rye the services are being cut in HALF:

• Last year there were 8 trains an hour from Peckham Rye to London Bridge, now there are 6. In 2012 there will be 4.
• Victoria services face new cuts. There are 4 an hour now. In 2012 there will be 2 in the day, and 0 in the evening.
