Changes to shelter and facilities on Peckham Rye platforms

Southern Rail have announced that work is about to start at Peckham Rye station to remove the existing shelters on Platforms 1 & 2 to replace them with a different kind. This is to make room for more passengers after the East London Line arrives on 9 December 2012.

Thameslink franchise consultation more time for comments

The Government has extended its deadline to 14 September for comment on the Thameslink franchise consultation. This gives you a chance to email your comments if you use the services covered by the franchise, especially the service to St Pancras via Blackfriars from Nunhead, Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill.

Thameslink franchise consultation

The Government is consulting about the future Thameslink franchise. This franchise will start in October 2013 and at the start will cover all the services currently run by FCC (First Capital Connect). These do not include services running through our SRUG stations (ie Peckham Rye, unhead, Denmark Hill, North Dulwich, East Dulwich, Queens Rd Peckham, Sth Bermondsey). However many of our services will be transferred to this new franchise after that:

  • in 2014, services to St Pancras and beyond from Sevenoaks via Nunhead, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Elephant & Castle and Blackfriars;

Victoria & Blackfriars services imminent changes

There are some important changes coming from 20 May in our local services to Victoria and Blackfriars. The new pocket timetables are now available in the stations. These changes are the consequence of Blackfriars station reopening after a long closure for redevelopment. That closure resulted in our Blackfriars services being diverted to Victoria after 8pm during the week and on Saturdays and Sundays.

London Bridge redevelopment: timeline up to 2018

A summary of the works, timeline and outcome of the redevelopment of London Bridge station is here.  A major impact on services from SRUG stations is that there will be no services from London Bridge to Waterloo East and Charing Cross in 2015 to 2017.

Mayoral election: could London’s rail services become part of TfL?

Earlier this month, Boris Johnson set out his plans to bring London’s rail services under the control of City Hall and TfL in a bid to improve London’s transport.  Mainline rail routes into London are currently franchised to private companies with varying degrees of customer service, timeliness and efficiency and the mayor believes he can do a better job. A recent Telegraph poll suggests that over 75% of other people think he can do a better job too. So does Ken Livingstone, though obviously he’s planning in terms of himself being mayor rather than Boris. Let’s take a look at their plans for devolution of rail franchises in London:  Read more

Victoria rail services - the Minister replies

Last Autumn, we let you know the latest information about the gaps in our services to Victoria that will be created by the loss of the South London Line (trains between London Bridge & Victoria via Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill) from December 2012. We asked users to email the Transport Minister and the London Mayor to let them know how you as users would be affected by this, and to ask them to fill the gaps in services.

Local action needed to extend Bakerloo line

Discussion on blog of ways to get the extension to happen.   December 27th, 2011 by James Barber Liberal Democrat Councillor for East Dulwich
The Bakerloo line is the only tube line considered to still have spare capacity. So it could be extended. It already extends significantly to the north so a southern extension deeper into Southwark is the obvious direction and South London has very poor public transport.
