Central London radial services - stop the cuts

All the stations covered by SRUG - Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, East Dulwich, Nunhead, Queens Rd Peckham, South Bermondsey - have direct services into central London through the trains going to the central London stations London Bridge, Victoria, and Blackfriars. The trains to these central London stations take only a short time eg from Peckham Rye, between 8 and 16 minutes. So within that time rail users can be on the Tube - one of 6 lines - Victoria, Circle, Distirct, Northern, Bakerloo, and Jubilee. This is the nearest inner SE London can get to being on the Tube. But it depends on having enough trains coming in from the south from various directions to make this possible. These services are being salami sliced year by year and on the way to ruining the virtual Tube service. SRUG is committed to defending these links.

South London Line plans will anger passengers

Several thousand passengers each day will be severely affected if Transport for London (TfL) and the Government break promises over the South London Line, said London TravelWatch.

London TravelWatch has issued the results of its passenger survey on the South London Line, which proves that passengers using the line will be severely disadvantaged if the promised replacement service between Victoria and Bellingham (via Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road, Peckham and Denmark Hill) does not go ahead.

Save the vital railway link

Southwark News Editorial 20 August 2009

It doesn't come as a surprise when plans are mooted to axe a transport link ... and there's an immediate howl of protest... But the argument against the closure of the South London Line from Victoria to London Bridge isn't just for it to be preserved. There's actually a decent arguemnt for the service to be INCREASED...

Southwark News 20 August 2009 by Val Shawcross

TfL have now decided that the new Surrey Canal Road station, on the new East London Line Extension pase 2, is not cost effective and are shelving the plans. Office of Rail Regulation Decision - your help needed!

message to the members of the Facebook Group "Save the South London Line between Victoria & London Bridge".

Dear Friend,
In a letter dated http://www.facebook.com/l/;31.07.2009 the Office of Rail Regulation has refused to re-open the route Utilisation Strategy (South London Route Utilisation Strategy or South London RUS).  The letter is available as a PDF  under Group Images.
Valerie Shawcross, AM wrote to the ORR on behalf of the Campaign to Save the South London Line and she has indicated to me that she is very unhappy with the decision.  She says: “This is very unfair and a poor decision in my view.”
Valerie has now asked London Travelwatch to advise if there is any procedure for appealing against this decision by the Office of Rail Regulation.

In the meantime help the Campaign to Save the South London Line by emailing John Larkinson, Deputy Director, Railway Planning and Performance, ORR to tell him you think his decision was not reasonable. I have included a suggested text for you to cut and paste into the body of the email.
