London Orbital isolates the Capital

Letter to Modern Railways magazine  (read article)    From:    Graham Feakins

Just who is this man, emboldened with the title of "London Rail Chief Operating Officer" and by name of Howard Smith, who can dismiss in two short sentences the total future of the South London Line (MR Dec. 09) by stating that Network Rail has 'already said' that the London Bridge end will be cut off in 2012, there has been "some controversy" and that the Victoria enhancement will not even

Selling us short again

South London Press 18 September 2009    Letters

One of the main tenets of TfL's big claim -that the East London Line Extension (ELLX) would be better for residents than the South London Line (SLL) has been finally exposed ... by the recently published London Travel Watch study... It proves beyond doubt that the SLL links to Victoria and London Bridge are far superior ...  Read more...

No sense in train cuts

Letters in South London Press  Monday, 20 July 2009

RESIDENTS of Camberwell who use Denmark Hill railway station to travel direct to London Bridge and Victoria are to face considerably reduced services. An improved service between these destinations, rather than a reduced one, is what is needed.
Denmark Hill is a vital link for many people travelling to King’s College Hospital, as well as for many who commute daily from Camberwell to central London. For them, bus travel is not a suitable alternative.
Journey times are terribly long due to congestion on the roads at all times of the day.

HELP US TO SAVE OUR VITAL RAIL SERVICES

Letter in Southwark News  23 June 2009

One of the wonderful things about living in Peckham is that Peckham Rye station is like a Tube station.
It is one of the most under-utilised assets in marketing Peckham, as a place to live, to work and to visit.

It has enough direct trains to central London Tube stations to be like a turn up and go station to the central tube network. Every five to ten minutes a train arrives that can take the user within nine to fifteen minutes to one of four central London stations connecting with six different Tube Lines - Victoria, District, Circle, Bakerloo, Jubilee, Northern (both loops).
Unfortunately this is now threatened. Between 2008 and 2012, the trains to London Bridge and Victoria will be cut in half, and there will be none in the evening to and from Victoria. TfL's secret plan, to replace trains

Death by 1,000 cuts    Monday, 01 June 2009

Rod Brown (Letters, May 22) acknowledges that South London is not well served by the Tube.

But he then seems surprised that residents who are thus forced to rely upon infrequent overground rail for their travel, wish to hang on to the limited services that they have.

He then perversely tries to argue that they would be better off if even more of their rail services were scrapped.

What planet is he on?
