Cross river train Peckham to St Pancras planned to stay!
At a meeting of rail user groups at Blackfriars 5th May 2010, Southeastern Rail gave assurances that the current service from Sevenoaks via Nunhead, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill to St Pancras and beyond would continue. This service was reintroduced just last year after being cut following rail privatisation.
In answer to a question from Eileen Conn for SRUG (Southwark Rail Users Group), Vince Lucas, Service Delivery Director of Southeastern, said “…the service is required in the current franchise until 2014, and we are not aware of any plans to reverse that.”
This rail service is the only direct cross river service from Southwark rail stations, and is very highly valued by residents in Nunhead, East Dulwich, Peckham (Peckham Rye) and Camberwell (Denmark Hill). It takes just 23 minutes to the new mainline terminus St Pancras and is also a direct gateway to Kentish Town, St Albans, and Bedford.
