If you use London Bridge station you will know the redevelopment work is now under way. Here is some latest news from Southern Rail who operate several services through our stations to London Bridge.
News from Southern Rail February 2013
Network Rail is transforming London Bridge station, which will mean more room for passengers and a huge increase in services on the Thameslink route. The station will boast the largest concourse in the UK, with entrances on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street. By reconfiguring the track, there
will be nine ‘through’ platforms and six terminating platforms meaning more trains to more destinations. The station will remain open while the work continues but some change to services during this time is inevitable.
Latest work
Behind the hoardings, work continues to remove the existing station roof. The team is working 24/7 and this element is expected to be complete by Easter 2013. In May 2013 platforms 14, 15 and 16 will be taken out of service so work can begin on constructing the new platforms. Temporary canopies will be erected covering platforms 9 to 13 and these will remain in situ for up to 22 months as platform reconstruction continues across the station.
From May 2013 there will be no access to the footbridge (for Southeastern services) to and from
platform 13 whilst this work takes place. An alternate walking route with wayfinding will be in place.
May 2013 will see changes in the timetable at London Bridge to accommodate the reduction from 9 to 6 platforms in the terminating low level part of the station. There will be platform changes and some re-timing of trains rather than removal of services. Passengers will be advised to check their typical journey in advance of the change on 19 May.
